Sometimes we go on tours by road and wonders how these great huge mountains are formed, how the valleys are formed, Why does the colour of rocks are different, etc. such questions we felt when we see such extraordinary creations of nature.
In Geology we exactly studies about the scientific facts associated with such generation of such great features. Their are number of different branches included in Geology. Geology in India is not very well known to all. Most of the time when any person takes Geology and tells it to in society first reaction what he gets is why did you taken up Geology? Thought that person himself will not be knowing what is basically a Geology. If that person is asked what he knew about Geology then they will simply makes confusion in zoology.

What is Geology?
The study or science of earth, its history, and its life as recorded in the rocks; includes the study of the geologic features of an area, such as the geometry of rock formations, weathering and erosion, and sedimentation.
Now one will have a question that what is studied in Geology. In Geology we have to consider each and every subject with its fundamentals.
There are various branches in Geology. In this blog I will just enlist various branches. Each branch deals with a specific direction and thought on a specific topic.
1. Climatology—That branch of meteorology concerned with the
mean physical state of the atmosphere together with its statistical variations in both space and time as reflected in the weather behavior over a period of many years.
2. Geochemistry—The field that encompasses the investigation of
the chemical composition of the earth, other planets, and the solar system and universe as a whole, as well as the chemical processes that occur within them.
3. Geophysics—The branch of geology in which the principles and
practices of physics are used to study the earth and its environment, that is, earth, air, and (by extension) space.
4. Hydrology—The science dealing with all aspects of the waters on
earth, including their occurrence, circulation, and distribution; their chemical and physical properties; and their reaction with the environment, including their relation to living things.
5. Paleoceanography- The study of the history of the circulation, chemistry, bio-geography, fertility, and sedimentation of the oceans.
6. Paleoclimate- The climate of a given period of geologic time. Also known as geologic climate.
7. Paleopedology- The study of soils of past geologic ages, including determination of their ages.
8. Sedimentology- The science concerned with the description, classification, origin, and interpretation of sediments and sedimentary rock.
9. Seismology- The study of earthquakes. Means the science of strain-wave propagation in the earth.
10. Coal petrology- The science that deals with the origin, history, occurrence, structure, chemical composition, and classification of coal.
11. Neotectonics- The study of the most recent structures and structural history of the earth’s crust, after the Miocene.
